Something bad happened years ago in the Australian mining town of Broken Hill. What exactly happened is unclear. The story alternates between past and present with the stories of Emily Ruff, who’s been tapped to attend a prestigious school run by a group known as the Poets, and Wil Parke, an ordinary guy who’s abducted from the airport and finds himself on the run. As we come to find out, sometimes language is more than communication and can quite literally bypass our normal consciousness and the filters in our minds. equal parts, thriller, love story, and mystery, this novel makes for a fun examination as to why so many cultures have stories like the biblical Tower of Babel.
