The Rook

by Daniel O’Malley

Review

The Rook

The person who awakes in the body of Myfanwy Thomas has no idea what is happening or why people are after her. In order to get to the bottom of things, she takes on the life of a person who’s more than an administrator in a secret British government agency, but is a Rook, one of the high-ranking members of an organization known as the Checquy, an organization charged with handling all manner of supernatural or inexplicable threats to the Realm. With a dash less Cthulhu, this novel should appeal to fans of Charles Stross’s Laundry series. Did I mention it has cover blurbs from both Lev Grossman (The Magician King) and Austin Grossman (Soon I Will Be Invincible), two authors whose work I’ve also enjoyed greatly and who, despite being twins, write very different styles of books but agree in their positive take on this book.
