Another definitive book on wargaming, also a little dated but still highly relevant. Includes a complete World War II wargame with design notes showing the evolution of the maps, units and rules. There’s some really good information on game design philosophy, information on how to successfully create your own game, recommendations of games representing different historical eras, and an overview of the then extant list of game publishers (most of whom no longer in business). The author was the president of Simulation Publications (SPI) and has dozens of games to his credit.
