A direct sequel to A Fire Upon the Deep, this book begins on the world of the Tines ten years after the events of the previous book. Ravna Bergnsdot and a number of human children survived the near destruction of the human race and then turned the tide at The Battle on the Starship Hill. Now they must deal with the politics and plots of their adopted world and the ever-present possibility of the Blight catching up to them.
