Under Heaven

by Guy Gavriel Kay

Review

Under Heaven

Starting with the end of a long war between the nations of Kitai and Tagura, the hero of the story is a younger son of a famous Kitan general. Rather than seek fame at court like his elder brother, he has come to the site of the last great battle to tend to the dead. When he receives a gift of immense value, he must contend with changes this brings to his life. Much like The Lions of Al-Rassan, this book is set in a fantastic setting with strong parallels to recognizable cultures, predominantly Chinese and Mongolian in this instance.
